Defeating Your Goliath

Ever heard of the Philistines? They of the Goliath kind? Modern archeology has discovered they weren’t as powerful as the Bible makes them seem to be. While Philistine dominance in Canaan lasted for several generations, they never enjoyed complete control over this territory for any extended period of time. Instead, they struggled to maintain their hold over the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Just as David defeated Goliath, so the Israelites eventually took their territory back from these people.

My point is this: Colossians 1:13 says, "For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son” which means the devil is only as strong as you allow him to be. He will parade, strut, taunt and intimidate, perhaps a little like Goliath did in 1 Samual 17.

Like David in the Goliath account, know you are “in covenant” and that covenant permanently defeated the enemy of your faith. Next time an “uncircumcised Philistine” (1Sam.17:26) type attack lands on your field of service to the Lord, rebuke, resist the enemy “and he shall flee” (James 4:7).
